“Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you.” – 1 Peter 5:7

Anxiety was never meant to rule our lives. Yet many of us find ourselves overwhelmed by worry because we try to carry life's burdens in our own strength. God never created us to do life independently of Him. Instead, we are called to be poor in spirit – recognizing our need for Him and our complete dependence upon His grace.

I know what it is like to be consumed by anxious thoughts. There was a season when fear gripped me so tightly that I constantly shook under its weight. What surprised me most was that I was already in Christ and surrounded by believers. It reminded me that Christians are not immune to struggles, but God never intended for anxiety to become our portion.

In 1 Peter 5, Peter calls believers to walk in humility. One of the clearest expressions of humility is casting our cares upon God. The word "cast" means to throw or place upon. We are invited to throw every worry, fear, burden, and concern onto the Father, trusting Him to care for us.

When we refuse to do this, we often slip into pride. We begin acting as though everything depends on us. In reality, that mindset can become a form of idolatry, placing ourselves in God's position rather than trusting Him to be Lord over our lives.

The good news is that God cares deeply for us. No concern is too small, no burden too heavy. He invites us to bring everything to Him.

Peter follows this encouragement with a warning: our adversary, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion seeking someone to devour (1 Peter 5:8). Lions often target those who are isolated, vulnerable, and alone. Likewise, we become easy targets when we try to face life's battles by ourselves.

This is why Scripture repeatedly calls us into community. Ecclesiastes 4 reminds us that two are better than one, and Hebrews 10 encourages us not to neglect gathering together. We need people who will pray with us, encourage us, and help carry us when our strength and faith feel weak.

If you feel alone today, take a step of humility and reach out. Ask God to connect you with people who will walk alongside you. He answered that prayer in my own life by surrounding me with faith-filled friends who helped me through difficult seasons.

Anxiety does not have the final say. As we humble ourselves before God, trust His Word, and lean into biblical community, we discover that He is faithful to sustain us. Be still and know that He is God. He has not abandoned you, even in the silence.

Today, choose to take every anxious thought captive. Place your hope in Christ, who has already secured the victory. We do not fight for victory - we worship from victory.

So whatever burden you are carrying, cast it upon Him. He cares for you, and anxiety has no hold on those who place their trust in Christ.
